The Chief Justice is not presiding and Trump is no longer in office.

Not disagreeing with you, just sharing what I read a couple of weeks ago about the process...And I don't recall the source, so don't shoot the messenger (maybe from FAUX news.) And it may not have been credible, but this is what I've got: It has something to do with him not being a sitting pres so that is supposed to be the reason why.

I somewhat agree with cuesentme 's point, and I also believe this isn't an impeachment. Without the CJ of SCOTUS, it's all fake and I'm fairly certain CJ isn't a Trump fan. I also think that if Trump believed he was totally out of it, he wouldn't have his attorneys there. There's more than meets the eye going on.
