Very True. I had to put my lead mare down last year😭I left her body in the pasture for 2 hrs so that my other Mare (Bambi), Gelding (Buddy) and Donkey her BFF (Jimmy Jack) could say goodbye. They pawed at her and sniffed her the entire time. We buried her in the same spot and they gather and lay on her grave. often. It was terribly heart breaking for all of us, but they know she is gone.
