That would be fine except if you take a plate or any other flat circular object and you have a light on one side of it no matter how you spin the plate the light is going to shine across the whole plate at the same time.

Nope, if the Earth was flat light would go across the whole Earth at the same time, just one stay over which is in a 1 hour time zone the sun comes up and the next stayed over it's still completely dark out, this would not happen if the Earth was flat.
