The word woke used to mean aware, actively attentive, with a higher view capable of perceiving vast information all at once. Many perceive the word woke as meaning, awakened, enlightened, more savvy than others.

Recently, the word WOKE became more well known as a terms describing what some groups term social inequalities such as their idea of sexism. It has also been used as slang for ideas involving identity politics and social justice, such as the notion of white privilege and slavery reparations. It has been weaponized by some to attack those who do not view things their way. To be WOKE now involves 'seeing' things only one way; the opposite of the original meaning of the word.
