Death Valley and Joshua Tree will get flooded since both are valleys surrounded by mountain an all sides, Death Valley more so than Joshua tree; but Joshua Tree will probably be the worse off than the two since there are more runoff channels in Death Valley.

But the road will be washed out, and that no question

Went through 29 Palms and Joshua Tree by accident because of GPS .. that was a desolate ride

Hard to say.

The resent projections I've seen is where it only stays within So Cal, and roughly follows a path up the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
Western NV, AZ may get hit, but it does looks like it's not in the direct path; but I don't doubt a few flash floods

Besides, after it's landfall for a few hours, it's gonna die down.

A lot of this is hype and they are even talking about evacuating Catalina, and Disneyland will be shut down for a day/closing early. But, I can see beach cities/areas shutting down for a day or two
