If you are dating someone, and your dog and/or cat does not like that person, quit dating that person. Dogs and cats know things before humans do!

Sounds reasonable yet a family friends dog always used to bare his teeth and growl at me, for no reason we could distinguish!

Maybe you reminded the dog of someone who had been cruel to him at some point. I knew one dog who would growl at me when I was in uniform, but he was fine when I was in civvies.
