Plague columns were created in Europe, which was ravaged by recurring plague epidemics for centuries, during the Baroque period, from the middle of the 16th century to the end of the 18th century. They are typical of Central Europe and Northern Italy. The term pestilence column was also sometimes transferred to commemorative columns of other tragedies, for example war (Prague, Munich and Vienna).
Vineyard columns are sometimes mistakenly labeled with St. Wenceslas (Prague) or St. Urban. These were used to protect the vineyards or mark the place where the vineyard tax was collected. Compared to them, the vine column in Prague-Troj had a different meaning – it marked the place of the grave of the victims of the plague.

The actor Jiří Pleskot was probably brother of Václav Pleskot.

Jiří Pleskot's wife was the very busy actress Jiřina Jirásková. In the 1950s, as a member of the Vinohrady scene, she and others condemned her colleague Jiřina Štěpničková, who was subsequently imprisoned for 10 years, in a fabricated trial. Jirásková was a member of the Communist Party from the age of 16 until 1970. In the years 1990–2000, she was the director of the Theater in Vinohrady (after the National Theatre, it was the second most famous theater in Prague).

So, criminals from the most tragic period of the 1950s, marked by the hunt for "class enemies", the nationalization of property and the seizure of private land, the installation of border wires, staged political trials, long prisons, labor camps and the execution of innocents, came back to power in the 1990s years and into leading positions not only in politics, but also and most importantly - in culture.
