Major Brian Shul died suddenly on Sunday night after giving a speech in Reno, Nevada. He "keeled over and died,"After a near death crash in Vietnam (his 210th combat mission) he was lying in a hospital with excruciating pain from disfiguring burns—about to give up and die—when he heard on the radio the hauntingly beautiful voice of Judy Garland. He decided to live, and live he did for 50 more years. His medical team after the Vietnam crash told Shul he'd never fly again. Instead, he defied the odds and became one of 89 people to fly the SR-71 (2,193 mph), the second fasted plane on the planet after its classified progenitor, the CIA's A-12 Oxcart (2,208 mph). Rest In Power Brian Shul.
