My daughters noted how cool the moon looked tonight. As I looked at it, I asked what makes the moon crescent. They both said, “The Earth casting a shadow on it. I asked, if that is the case, the sun just set 2 hours ago in the same area that moon is in right now and the sun is farther away. How can the Earth possibly be casting a shadow if they are both in the same place. The sun is not on the other side of the planet, in fact over California it is still sunny outside.
