Wealth, especially monetary, is the master of others through the self -indirectly- since it corrupts similar to pride
One could say a 'service to self'
Becoming masters of self through a service of others that reduces excess (that is key) pride, avarice, envy, etc

Is it possible that someone can get rid of, not just reduce the "7 deadly sins" from their life -yes.
But I would rather err with a baby-step approach than dive head first to get rid of them.
