There's a book called GHOSTLIGHT by Kenneth Oppel that features a circular lens of amber glass that specifically works to strengthen the beam of light from the lighthouse. The brightness of the light keeper's lamp reveals ghosts and is used to "send them (the ghosts) where they are meant to be, be it Heaven or Hell."

"Only the Order's master glassblowers can make them (the mysterious amber lens). And they are very rare."
