I wanted to share something that has worked well for me for the past seven seasons. Pro's: Self watering, (I water once or twice a month - depends on rainfall), very minimal maintenance, minimal bending, 90-95% less weeds, (unless your spouse drives the mover in the wrong direction), can be sized to your space limitations, lasts for years.
I'm getting ready to build my 4th one this time 4' x12.' Tips: Invest in a thicker fish safe liner. One of my Home Depot liners was punctured when turning the soil at the end of the season. Mix your own soil. Don't use potting soil. I've built with both cedar and treated lumber. The wood doesn't come into contact with the plant roots. Extend your season by mounting pipe clamps on the sides, arching 1" PVC pipe, and covering with sheet plastic.
