Not sure specifically about your outage, but a quick check of down detector shows AWS in the yellow, which can happen. Amazon hosts many web services we use and when they run into issues it can take a bit to get everything spun back up. Being yellow means they themselves are not completely down, bit may have certain clusters which still are. Hope this helps!
