ICYMI: Brian Cole Jr., the suspect in the 2021 pipe bomb case near DNC and RNC headquarters, worked for his father’s immigration bond company, StateWide Bonding, Inc., which sued the Trump administration’s Department of Homeland Security over policies that penalized bondsmen for clients’ court no-shows.

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit dismissed all claims against DHS on November 10, 2020, weeks before the alleged bombings.

StateWide helps undocumented immigrants secure release from detention. In 2021, Cole Sr. accused a Tennessee prosecutor of racial discrimination alongside attorney Benjamin Crump, but a 2025 appeals court upheld sanctions against the firm for misconduct, including undisclosed bankruptcies and tax liens.
