Even if what you say is correct how have we lost? If Hillary had got in we would have been on our way there anyway. If this is the DS way of disclosure then so what? We are stronger bc of our research and most especially bc instead of suffering alone we had a point around which to pivot and congregate . We have community and faith and thats good .
I doubt anyone would have done much different anyway - just holed out and been picked off one by one or have years of civil war , look like syria and rebuild from scratch.
