Technically it's not new, it's just being exposed more. Children have been exploited by adults for thousands of years. It's only in the past century that we elected to change that. Child labor laws and protective services are relatively new as well. Let's not forget Jonathan Swift's Modest Proposal. Anyone read Charles Dickens lately? And human trafficking is a big money maker, which is why very few are squealing about it--I mean, we all like our smartphones, right? And our tablets, or computers, our smart watches. The lithium in the batteries is mined by children living in horrible conditions and making starvation wages. We can easily point our fingers at celebrities and athletes for being ignorant, but remember we vote with our dollars too. A lawsuit and a fine mean nothing to these corporations. Protests are just words. What kind of ACTION can we take to fix this? Those child laborers need to be replaced by...who? You? Me? Them? Some shapeless someone? A machine? What is the plan?
