I must also add that I am a huge fan of dad jokes. Humor does a lot to defuse potential situations. Dad jokes are notoriously corny, and the dads know it, but don't care. It's a subtle way of showing that you don't need to be perfect and it's OK if others roll their eyes at you - you take it in good humor!
I used to use this a lot when moderating game chats. Direct authority usually leads to rebellion. So you sort of steer it in a better direction. :)
