apple cider or white vinegar?

I make my own and have for years. Either or will work. Also add about 1 tsp of salt to rough berries ie...strawberries, raspberries etc. It will bring out the knats that the vinegar doesn't get. I wash everything I purchase and the shelf/refrigerator life is longer.
