Contemporary Jews have no ancestral connection to the ancient 12 tribes of Israel. Over 95 percent are descendants of 8th century Khazarian converts primarily of Edomite descent. As the result of the Assyrian and Babylonian captivities followed by the destruction of Jerusalem in 70 AD all of the Abrahamic Hebrew Israelites have been absorbed into the Gentile nations. Judaism is a religious sect and not an ethnicity.
