The Shasta County Elections Office is addressing a significant issue with the scanning of returned ballots, as many are not being registered by the tabulator. County Clerk and Registrar of Voters Tom Toller held a morning news conference to discuss the problem and his proposed solution.
"Look at these copies of ballots. To the naked eye, the bar codes appear identical," Toller said. However, due to the combination of ballots printed by Runbeck Election Services and Hart InterCivic tabulators, many ballots are not registering.
