But, you know what folk will do - take the shortest route down to the water.
Architects and town planners make paths in public parks that wind (they are called wish ways) they look pretty in plan view - and usually end up having to reseed or replant where folk walk the straight lines between points like entrance/exit gates, and sports/play facilities.
The only way to make folk use these paths is to make all other routes impassable.
I used to work with an architectural technician at a local authority.
