Students always had and have more power than they know. However, students (especially the younger they are) see teachers as a final authority; but few teachers deserve that moniker - many teachers are 'learning on the job' because teaching, like learning is a never ending learning cycle.

My countless years of college has taught me one thing, it never intended to: many with a PhD are some of the biggest jerks with massive egos i have met.
It's not a 'holier than though' attitude, but more like: "I spent 10's of 1000's of dollars and wasted so much time to get those extra letters, I want the respect I deserve!" - this was an actual rant I overheard

I heard those rants also. Only the ones I heard came from the biggest jerks with the massive egos.
